Association News in Pictures "Great Truths From God's Word" Bible Conference
 |
Grand Valley Baptists joined together in a wonderful time of worship, study and fellowship during the "Great Truths from God's Word" Bible Conference held on four consecutive evenings, February 6-9, and hoseted by four churches: Orchard Mesa Baptist, Living Water Baptist, HEART of Junction and New Covenant Baptist. The conference was sponsored by the Grand Valley Baptist Association. Two sermons were brought each evening by eight GVBA pastors based on selected topics from the Baptist Faith and Message, 2000. The evening events were well attended and began with a delicious meal prepared by the host church followed by musical praise and preaching. |

OUTREACH MINISTRY BEGINS IN DINOSAUR, CO
 |
Volunteer Church Strengthener Missionaries, Terry and Dana Pickens, from Blue Springs, MS, arrived in Dinosaur, CO, in January. They were greeted with 20 degree below zero temperatures. Thank you to Rocky Mountain Baptist Church in Rifle for providing a power generator as a back-up power source. |
|
Due to budget cuts, the Dinosaur School was closed several years ago. Now, the 19 students, ranging from early elementary grades through high school, study "online" with the aid of computers and an on line feed from teachers in Douglas County in eastern Colorado. Local facilitators provide assistance to the students who attend classes in the original Dinosaur school building.
When Terry and Dana learned the students had no hot meals, they decided there was an opportunity to provide a needed ministry to the students. Thanks to a grant received from the North American Mission Board's Hunger Funds program and generous donations from many Grand Valley Baptist churches, the students now have hot meals prepared daily for them by Dana and Terry.
Also, there was no heat in the classroom or eating area. Funds were made available from the Colorado Baptist General Convention for baseboard heaters. Terry has installed the new heaters and the students (and facilitators) are most appreciative!

EMMANUEL BAPTIST CHURCH RETIRES INDEBTEDNESS ON BUILDING
 |
We rejoice with Emmanuel Baptist Church on the retirement of the indebtedness of their building. Praise the Lord for His blessings which enabled the church to pay their note of $180,000 in less than 3 years. A recent mortgage burning ceremony was held to celebrate this great achievement. Pastor Bob Murr commented, "It has been evident from the very start that God has been in control and it is just exciting to see God at work." Plans are underway for the second phase of their building project. |
FAMILYROOM FELLOWSHIP - 2ND ANNUAL "HOLY HIP HOP IN THE PARK"
Crowds gathered, music filled the air and Jesus was lifted up as Familyroom Fellowship brought
the message of freedom in Christ to residents of Grand Junction on a perfect fall day in
in September. Equipment was provided by the Block Party Trailer, a ministry of the Colorado
Baptist General Convention, to aid in outreach events.
| Dave Dennis, pastor of Fellowship of the Rockies, Rifle, baptizes new believers in conjunction with their annual church picnic at Harvey Gap. We rejoice that God is still at work in the lives of His people! |
